Sing to Win!

2 Chronicles 20

Jehoshaphat – a favourite among worship leaders I’m sure!  After all, he won a battle with the aid of his worship team who sung their way to victory!

Where was his army I hear you ask?  Well, they were . . . benched!  The memo read ‘Army not required’.  Ok, ok let me explain.

King Jehoshaphat’s enemies were coming to battle against him.  After doing the sums he quickly realised he was doomed!  I mean, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that 3 armies against 1 equals total annihilation!  But Joe (as I’ll call him for the purpose of this blog) had a secret weapon.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive . . . but unlike Superman, Jehoshaphat’s God has NO kryptonite!  So as soon as he hears news of the ensuing battle, Joe goes before his God.

Jehoshaphat knows exactly what to do.  It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Step 1. Seek the Lord

Step 2. Seek the Lord

Step 3. Seek the Lord

. . . And that’s all he could do!  You see, he knew they had no way of overcoming the enemy (verse 12) but he also knew the God he served!

He stands before the Lord and declares ‘O Lord, God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven? And do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In Your hand are power & might, so that none is able to withstand You’.

In response to King Jehoshaphat, God speaks! ‘Be not afraid . . . the battle is not yours but God’s . . take your positions, stand still & see the deliverance of the Lord’ (verse 15).  And that’s exactly what happened.  The singers were sent out before the army to ‘sing to the Lord and praise Him’.  As they began to sing, the Lord set ambushments against the enemies so that they were self-slaughtered (ouch!).

Is there any situation too hard for God? No! Whatever you might be facing in your life just know that God is in control.  The battle has already been won – just stand still, put your trust in Him, and see the deliverance of God!

God Bless,

Norma
