Trusting God

Trusting God – what does this mean, and more importantly what does it look like?

I’ve heard many times in my Christian walk that trusting God is a journey that leads to joy unspeakable and real, genuine faith! Maybe you’ve heard this too – has your mind ever responded loudly with ‘yeah, for those who get there!’

I am comfortable admitting I’ve been there more times than numbers can count (I was never that great at mathematics) … however, I am moved to concede that it’s not impossible to walk through this life with all the challenges that it brings in unwavering faith.

Eugene Patterson puts it best when placing his spin on Proverbs 3

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God!’

In my journey, I’ve learnt that trust starts when I concede that I don’t have all the answers. An awareness that I’m not supposed to either, has been exceptionally liberating – for certain this revelation has caused my brain significant strain in an effort to figure it all out … it’s for the best since I’m not that smart (the maths thing).

Someone said once “The end of ourselves is the beginning of God” – while this presents itself as very cliché’ I have come to accept this as true. When I empty myself I reach my limited understanding and re-discover God’s unlimited GRACE! That’s where I build trust and stop the journey for the answers I can’t find – and nor do I need too!
