It’s an epic tale; providence brings a way of escape through an unlikely hero with a speech impediment and a bag full of insecurity. The nation of Israel continues to enjoy the taste of freedom and the relief that it brings and then The Maker speaks.
Exodus 35:5 ‘Then Moses said to all the people “This is what the Lord has commanded. Everyone is invited to bring these offerings to the Lord.”
Elohim is a Hebrew word that means GOD – to the hearer it is more than just a word, it is literally part of ones thinking, even in a whisper of the name Elohim a Hebrew child will think of The Maker … The Creator … The One God.
Even if we just scratch the surface of this, to catch a glimpse of the reality of God inviting us to bring an offering is almost too much to grasp. It’s difficult to fathom, too much to hold – Elohim invites us to help and bids us to come! I simply cannot overstate the significance.
Stunning however if not unbelievable is the possibility that some, even if just a small group of the chosen, would withhold in an unexplainable God snub. Exodus 35:21 “…If their hearts were stirred and they desired to do so, they brought to the Lord their offerings of materials for the Tabernacle.”
We all know that ‘if’ in any language can be a game changer; the context can go either way depending on its use and application. Here it doesn’t diminish its impact at all and the suggestion is simple, some went back to their tents and prepared a gift for God, others withheld, stood back and simply denied God.
Reality is, today we struggle with the same battle at the revelation of the same invitation. For whatever reason whether it be insecurity or resistance we withhold from and snub God … ironically He bids us to come and bring our gift that ultimately benefits us, our walk and our journey.
Here it is again, verse 5 ‘everyone is invited to bring an offering’ verse 10 ‘come, all of you who are gifted.’
My point … Elohim bids us to come. I’m in, how about you?
