Any football fans out there?
If you’re of the ‘round ball’ persuasion, you’ll be familiar with English Premier League team Liverpool and their fan base anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ They sing it every home and away game, it’s amazing to hear, when the team visited Australia, 85,000 local supporters filled the stadium with the tune, and it was really something else.
When our children were young we took them to Warner Brothers Movie World. In the star parade we met with Batman, it was a thrill for my son Aaron who was fascinated with the superhero. He had the photo and got the autograph which we dug up recently in a cupboard cleanout, the message was ‘I’m always watching over you.’
These are two very strong messages, in our humanity at one time or another we will all travel difficult roads that take us through challenge, paths that we walk where we hope that someone is watching over us, streets that we go down where we hope to not walk alone.
Psalm 121 has got our back … I look to the mountains, does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth. He will not let you stumble and fall; the one who watches over you will not sleep. Indeed, he who watches over you will not sleep. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not hurt you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord keeps you from evil and preserves your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.’
So when it really matters the one who holds the world in His hands is watching over you.
My prayer is that God will watch over me, wherever my feet may tread, where life’s oceans are deep, when my days are sometimes dark, He is with me, right beside me as I navigate trouble, God that you will watch over me as I come and as I go, and the same is for you too!
You’ll never walk alone!
